Servers
Gromit
Gromit is my all-purpose machine for both test and production environments. The CPU was chosen for its high single-threaded performance, which is ideal for running game servers such as Minecraft.
The current hardware is as follows:
- i5-7600K
- 16 GB DDR4
- GTX 960 for transcoding
- NVMe boot drive
- 7 mismatched drives:
- 5 for network share (4.2 TB pool using mergerfs)
- 4 TB backup
- 4 TB parity
- Mellanox ConnectX-3 10 Gbps SFP+ NIC
The majority of services are containerised in Docker, and serve only a few users. Services include:
- Samba
- Jellyfin
- Authentik
- Immich
- Vaultwarden
- Home Assistant
- Game servers
Timmy
Timmy is a small Lenovo ThinkCentre M910q Tiny, working as an offsite backup machine. As my upload speed at home is pretty poor, this also hosts a Jellyfin instance for more performant video streaming. The i5-6500T seems okay for simple transcoding.
Victor
Victor is a future Proxmox machine, built on a dual-X99 platform. I intend it to host pretty much every service besides game hosting, which would benefit from Gromit’s better single-threaded performance. The drive pool will also be moved to this machine.
Planned hardware is as follows:
- 2x Xeon E5-2680v4
- 32 GB DDR4
Preston
Preston is currently out of action, but was built to be a OPNSense router. It’s a hunk of junk with a watercooled i3-6100 and open frame case.
